Series 1: Behind the Scenes: Streamlining My Digital World (and Trying Not to Break the Internet)
Running Perfect Match Resumes has been a whirlwind of learning and multitasking. Each day feels like a mini-adventure through digital marketing, analytics, and connecting on multiple platforms. What started as a simple idea to help people with resumes has turned into a full-blown operation focused on not just getting the word out but also on streamlining every backend process that comes with running a business.
Today’s Journey: From Google Analytics to Reddit (and Everything In Between)
I’ll be honest: I didn’t wake up planning to spend hours figuring out how to block my own IP address from my website traffic. But here we are! When you’re constantly tweaking and refreshing your own site, it can seriously inflate visitor data—and not in a good way. To get an accurate read on who’s visiting Perfect Match Resumes, I had to exclude my own traffic using something called CIDR notation. It took some trial and error, but once it worked, it felt like a new level of “website mastery” unlocked.
From Traffic Tracking to Reddit Engagement
Traffic tracking was only the beginning. I also needed to engage communities on Reddit, where dropping a link doesn’t cut it—you need to be part of the conversation. I jumped into r/jobs, r/careerguidance, and r/resumes, responding to posts, offering advice, and subtly mentioning Perfect Match. Reddit engagement isn’t about pushing your brand; it’s about building curiosity and letting people discover it naturally. And finding that balance is an art form in itself.
Streamlining Blog Posts and Social Media Tags
On top of this, I needed to ensure blog posts kept flowing with SEO optimization and tags. It’s one thing to write content—it’s another to make sure it actually gets seen. I realized I had to stay on top of Google tags, LinkedIn connections, and Reddit promotion, which can feel like spinning plates.
While on LinkedIn, I spent time connecting with potential collaborators and industry experts. LinkedIn isn’t just for updates—it’s a networking goldmine. But with everything going on, I recognized the need to streamline this process, too.
Streamlining It All: The Big Realization
By the end of the day, it hit me: these different elements—Google Analytics, Reddit engagement, blog posts, LinkedIn networking—all need to work together. I can’t treat them like separate tasks to handle daily. That’s where streamlining comes in.
Over the next few weeks, I plan to automate as much as possible. Whether it’s scheduling blog posts, setting up LinkedIn posts in advance, or batching Reddit responses, it’s time to free up mental space. Running a business doesn’t mean doing everything manually—it’s about finding smart ways to get things done.
The Next Steps: Time to Simplify
So, what’s next? Here are my main focus points to streamline everything I did today:
Automate Social Media: Schedule posts across platforms to focus on engagement, not manual posting.
Improve Blog Workflow: Integrate SEO optimization and tagging directly into my writing process.
Simplify LinkedIn Strategy: Build relationships without spending hours on cold outreach.
Running Perfect Match Resumes is about helping others, but it’s also about building a smarter business. Today reminded me that even small, behind-the-scenes tasks add up, and while they might seem trivial, they’re the foundation of success.
